This mainstream cruise line, which started in the mid-1960s, has mushroomed
into the largest cruise corporation in the world, with Carnival Corporation
now owning Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, Princess
Cruises, and Seabourn Cruise Line. Carnival's 'Fun Ships' attract a high
number of first time cruisers and families with their brightly colored
interiors based on contemporary themes and their excellent facilities
for children and teens. Carnival itineraries focus mainly on warm water
cruising and most of the fleet's ships are deployed in the Caribbean throughout
the year, with Miami their main base port. However, the company has recently
announced plans for expansion into Europe with at least two ships dedicated
to cruising in the Mediterranean. Carnival also offers cruises to the
Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, Hawaii and Alaska. Ships generally are
new (most built within the last 10 years) and large, with many, such as
Carnival Spirit and Carnival
Destiny, over 100,000 tons.
Officers are Italian and service staff are international.
